Oakley have always tried to collaborate with atheletes at the top of their game, giving them invaluable insights into what such athletes require and expect from their sunglasses and eyewear. Oakley haven’t changed this approach for their new Holbrooks either, getting world-famous snowboarder Shaun White on board to help design the sugnlasses.
In helping out with Oakley’s latest sport-orientated designer sunglasses, White apparently wanted to capture the core essence of American cool; drawing influences from the 50′s and 60′s. That’s perhaps an explanation as to why these undeniably cool sunglasses do look a little reminiscent of the classic Ray Ban Wayfarer, but there’s nothign wrong with that. This similarity to the Ray Ban’s could in fact serve to cement the popularity of these shades, as they perfectly fit in to this season’s vintage trend.
The Holbrook name comes from a tiny town on Route 66 in America, a town that perfectly personifies the mixutre of glory and guts that makes up the American Dream (according to Oakley and White).
The Holbrooks are beautifully designed, getting their vintage look from the defined, large lenses and chunky frames. These sunglasses are an extremely good example of Oakley design; vintage and in-style yet still featuring Oakley’s innovative technology, making them as high-performance as any other pair of Oakley sunglasses.
This pair of Oakleys are a superb indicator as to why the company is so keen to work with top athletes on their design and technology implementation. Oakley are one of the most renowned sunglasses manufacturers in the World and it’s because of this willingness to adapt their approach to include collaboration with the best athletes that they have been so successful. The new Oakley Holbrook’s are a perfect choice for anyone taking to the slopes this year, or anyone just wanting to look good on the high-street this summer.
